The book's literary style is characteristic of Wallace's early 20th-century works, with swift-paced plotting and a deft use of suspense that cements his legacy within the thriller genre. The rich literary context of post-World War I provides further nuance to the personal and societal conflicts presented within the narrative.

Edgar Wallace's prolific career as an author, playwright, and journalist informed much of his fiction. His firsthand experiences in Africa and during his work as a war correspondent add a layer of authenticity to the geographical and cultural backdrop of 'Mr. Justice Maxell.' Wallace's personal affinity with themes of justice and moral ambivalence may well have been the impetus for exploring a narrative where the lines between friendship and enmity, legality and retribution, are intriguingly blurred.

Scholars and enthusiasts of classic British crime fiction will find 'Mr. Justice Maxell' a compelling addition to their library. Wallace's craft of suspense is evident, providing a narrative rich with intrigue and a window into the complexities of human relationships shaped by the legal system. Recommended for those who appreciate a tale of civilized veneers eroded by primal vendettas, Wallace's work stands as a testament to the enduring appeal of the court-room drama, interwoven with the exoticism of distant lands and the timeless allure of revenge.
