I am the people

"I Am the People" is a bold, realistic novel that depicts Egypt before the July Revolution, when poverty and marginalization were the fate of the majority, and when the people groaned under the burden of social and economic injustice. Through the journey of "Sayed," a young boy who lost his father early, we witness his bitter struggle for survival as he works hard for meager wages, while his heart remains attached to an impossible love for a wealthy girl separated from him by a vast class gap. The novel reveals the cruelty of life, highlights the resilience of hope in the face of defeat, and poses major questions about justice, love, and human dignity. It is a literary testimony to a painful reality and an honest voice speaking on behalf of the poor: "I am the people."

محمد فريد أبو حديد (1893 – 1967) هو أديب ومفكر مصري بارز، يُعد من رواد الأدب النهضوي في القرن العشرين. وُلد في القاهرة وتخرج في مدرسة المعلمين العليا، ثم انخرط في ميادين التعليم والصحافة والثقافة، فكان مدرسًا ومحررًا وكاتبًا مثقفًا واسع الاطلاع. كتب في مجالات الرواية والمسرح والمقالة الأدبية والتاريخية، وتميز أسلوبه بالجمع بين الفصاحة والبعد الفكري. من أبرز أعماله رواية "ابنة المملوك" و"الوعاء المرمري"، إلى جانب دراسات أدبية وتاريخية عن أعلام الأدب العربي. كما لعب دورًا مهمًا في الحركة الثقافية المصرية من خلال مقالاته في الصحف والمجلات ومشاركته في المنتديات الفكرية، فترك أثرًا كبيرًا في الأدب العربي الحديث.
