Trust of love

"Amanat Al-Hob" represents a pioneering literary experiment in the early days of modern Arab theater. It was presented by Princess Iskandarah Constantine Al-Khoury in 1899 in a theatrical form that combines autobiography and literary fiction. The play is not merely a love story between Emilia and the Prince of Spain; rather, it reflects the spirit of its author and her bold feminist voice in an era when literature was more of a stage for Arabization and translation than a realm of authentic female creativity. Through its ambiguous love story and repressed pain, the play opens a window onto the world of women in the late nineteenth century, where the emotional intertwines with the personal, the subjective with the social, presenting the reader with a text brimming with astonishment and inspiration. This work is not merely a newly discovered, unknown theatrical work; rather, it is a literary and cultural testament to the presence and influence of Arab women in the early beginnings of the theatrical and feminist movements.
