Stories about famous Western writers

This selected collection of stories from a group of prominent Western writers showcases the arts of narrative literature with distinctive touches. The writer Faraj Gibran collected them and published them in Egyptian newspapers and magazines during the first half of the twentieth century. Stories transport us in a simple and honest way in different worlds; Starting from "Letters from my Mill" by Alphonse Daudet, through the stories of Louise Hilgers, and ending with the revolutionary works of Marcel Prévot that dealt with the life of the Parisian girl. This collection is a wonderful window into translated world literature, giving the reader the opportunity to explore the diversity of styles and motivations for writing.

فرج جبران كان كاتبًا وصحفيًا ومترجمًا بارزًا، عمل موظفًا حكوميًا في ديوان المحاسبة بالقاهرة، ولكنه كان يهوى الصحافة والأدب. شارك في إصدار مجلة «الشعلة» مع محمد علي حماد، وحرر في «آخر ساعة» منذ نشأتها. ترجم العديد من القصص والروايات من اللغة الفرنسية، وبعد الحرب العالمية الثانية اتجه إلى كتابة عن الرحلات والطرائف والغرائب في البلاد التي زارها. توفي في حادث تحطم طائرة بعد إقلاعها من إيطاليا في طريقها إلى القاهرة عام 1960، حيث اختفت الطائرة فوق البحر الأبيض المتوسط ولم يُعثر لها أو لركابها على أثر. ترك جبران مؤلفات وترجمات عديدة، منها: «غرام الملوك»، و«تعال معي إلى أوروبا»، و«ابن بطوطة الثاني»، وكان يكتب أحيانًا تحت اسم مستعار هو «فجر» بسبب وظيفته الحكومية.
