In the play "Son of the People," we follow the story of Richard, an ambitious young man who sought to reach the English House of Representatives with the support of the people. His struggles against government corruption and sincere intention to serve the nation made him a popular leader. But things soon change when he is attracted by the glamor of power, and he decides to abandon his wife, Janie, to replace her with Miss Wilmore in pursuit of higher political office. The play reveals the impact of political ambition on values ​​and principles, as Richard sacrifices his love and loyalty on the altar of politics.

فرج جبران كان كاتبًا وصحفيًا ومترجمًا بارزًا، عمل موظفًا حكوميًا في ديوان المحاسبة بالقاهرة، ولكنه كان يهوى الصحافة والأدب. شارك في إصدار مجلة «الشعلة» مع محمد علي حماد، وحرر في «آخر ساعة» منذ نشأتها. ترجم العديد من القصص والروايات من اللغة الفرنسية، وبعد الحرب العالمية الثانية اتجه إلى كتابة عن الرحلات والطرائف والغرائب في البلاد التي زارها. توفي في حادث تحطم طائرة بعد إقلاعها من إيطاليا في طريقها إلى القاهرة عام 1960، حيث اختفت الطائرة فوق البحر الأبيض المتوسط ولم يُعثر لها أو لركابها على أثر. ترك جبران مؤلفات وترجمات عديدة، منها: «غرام الملوك»، و«تعال معي إلى أوروبا»، و«ابن بطوطة الثاني»، وكان يكتب أحيانًا تحت اسم مستعار هو «فجر» بسبب وظيفته الحكومية.
