Über den Autor

Abraham 'Bram' Stoker (1847–1912) was an Irish author best known for his gothic horror masterpiece, 'Dracula,' published in 1897. Stoker was born in Dublin, Ireland, and overcame a mysterious illness that left him bedridden until the age of seven. He later attended Trinity College, graduating with honors in mathematics. His literary career was deeply influenced by his fascination with the macabre and the supernatural, as well as his friendship with the actor Henry Irving, for whom he worked as a personal assistant and business manager at the Lyceum Theatre in London. Stoker's time at the Lyceum exposed him to many of the cultural currents that would flow into his writing. His novels and short stories often explored themes of horror, romanticism, and history, with 'Dracula' synthesizing extensive research of Eastern European folklore and vampiric myths, becoming a defining work of the horror genre and leaving an indelible mark on popular culture. Stoker's oeuvre, however, extends beyond 'Dracula' and is well represented in 'The Complete Works of Bram Stoker,' which encompasses his other novels such as 'The Jewel of Seven Stars' and 'The Lady of the Shroud,' as well as his short stories and non-fiction. Stoker's contribution to literature has been commemorated in the form of awards and societies, such as the Bram Stoker Awards for horror writing, and through critical studies highlighting his role in the evolution of both Victorian literature and the horror genre.
