About the eBook

The Regency Romance Classics – Fanny Burney Collection gathers the courtship plots, social satire, and moral dramas that helped define the English novel before Austen. Through works such as Evelina, Cecilia, Camilla, and The Wanderer, Burney blends epistolary immediacy, comic dialogue, and acute psychological observation. Her fiction exposes the rituals of polite society, the precarity of female reputation, and the constraints placed upon women seeking love, autonomy, and security in late Georgian Britain. Fanny Burney (1752–1840), also known as Madame d'Arblay, was a pioneering novelist, diarist, and observer of court and literary life. Daughter of the music historian Charles Burney, she moved among artists, aristocrats, and intellectuals, later serving at the court of Queen Charlotte. Her unusual access to drawing rooms, theatres, and royal circles sharpened her eye for manners, hypocrisy, and social performance. This collection is warmly recommended to readers who enjoy Jane Austen, Maria Edgeworth, or the foundations of romantic fiction. Burney offers not merely love stories, but sophisticated studies of class, gender, and feeling. Her novels remain essential for anyone wishing to understand the evolution of the British novel and the cultural world that produced Regency romance.

About the Author

Frances Burney (1752-1840) was an English satirical novelist, diarist and playwright. She is best known for her novels Evelina, Cecilia, Camilla and The Wanderer. Burney's novels explore the lives of English aristocrats, and satirize their social pretensions and personal foibles, with an eye to larger questions such as the politics of female identity. She has gained critical respect in her own right, but she also foreshadowed such novelists of manners with a satirical bent as Jane Austen and Thackeray.
