Über das eBook

Charlotte Mary Young (1823–1901) was an English writer known for her historical and morality novels, as well as popular children's books. Inspired by the works of Walter Scott, she devoted herself to the study of history and created an extensive literary legacy. Her works include the novels "The Ratcliffe Heir," "The Dove in the Eagle's Nest," and numerous short stories for young readers, collected in the "Aunt Charlotte's Tales" series, which opened up scenes from the past to modern times.

The novel "The Captive Lion," presented in this edition, transports the reader to the world of medieval Scotland, where grandeur and cruelty coexist. Gloomy castles, kings who have not yet lost their chivalrous ways, noble vassals, and proud ladies whose destinies are governed by the laws of honor and passion, appear before the eyes. Recreating the atmosphere of the Middle Ages, Jung combines romantic imagination with historical detail, transforming the narrative into a captivating journey into an era of chivalrous exploits and dynastic intrigue.

"The Captive Lion" is a striking example of the Victorian historical novel, where the authentic features of the era emerge through the fiction, and history takes on a living breath.
