Valeria
Über das eBook
Antoine de Waal (1836–1917) was a French writer and historian known for his research on the role of Rome in the development of the Christian church.
The novel "Valeria (Triumphal Procession from the Catacombs)" transports the reader to the first decades of the fourth century, when the Roman Empire was divided by the struggle between Constantine and Maxentius. Against this backdrop, the fate of the young patrician Valeria, the daughter of a noble family, unfolds. Her mother dies, preferring death to dishonor, and this tragedy becomes the starting point for the heroine's inner transformation. Valeria embraces the Christian faith and becomes a zealous preacher, which inevitably brings her into conflict with the authorities and the emperor himself.
The reader is presented with not only a story of personal revenge and spiritual fortitude, but also a picture of an era when new ideas shattered the foundations of the ancient world, and the destinies of individuals reflected the dramatic changes in civilization as a whole.
