Über das eBook

Willa Cather delves into the contradictions of the human soul and its worlds. It deals with moral crises and their repercussions in light of the control and dominance of American society by money, which becomes an incentive for exploitation in the name of the law. The author also refers to the always ambiguous American policy in dealing with many issues, including the issue of the "Red Indians," as she devotes an entire chapter to Tom's life and his adventures in the Southwest and his discovery of the "cliff city" in that "messy" desert table in the state of Arizona, which is currently considered an important heritage landmark in the United States of America. The most important event in the novel is the invention invented by Tom Outland, who obtains his patent before he goes to participate in World War I and is killed, leaving a will that creates a crisis between the characters, after the wealth that the invention achieves and raises many questions. Who is credited with this invention? Is it for Dr. Crane, who wasted his time with Tom, gave him advice, and provided him with a physical laboratory so he could apply his equations and experiments? Or to his fiancée, according to the will that Tom wrote? Where is the law and personal integrity in all this?
