Myth and Consciousness

In this book, the author Issam al-Din Hifni Nassef addresses myth and its relationship to creating consciousness in humans, but he presents all of this from the history of the prophets, starting with Cain and Abel, passing through Abraham, Lot, and Joseph, and ending with David.

What distinguishes this book is the research and scrutiny of historical narratives, and the comparison between the texts of the three religions that deal with the stories of the prophets and what happened in their lives, despite the different backgrounds and the diversity of the stories.

عصام الدين حفني ناصف: أحد روَّاد الحركة الوطنية المصرية في مطلع القرن العشرين، وهو نجل العلَّامة والمشرِّع الفكري واللغوي «حفني ناصف»، وشقيق الأديبة الكبيرة «ملَك حفني ناصف» المعروفة ﺑ «باحثة البادية».

نشأ «عصام الدين» في كنَف والده، وهو ما ساعَده على الدخول إلى عالم الثقافة والأدب من ناحية، والعمل الوطني من ناحيةٍ أخرى، فانغمس في العمل الثوري؛ إذ شارَك في ثورة ١٩١٩م، وانضمَّ إلى «حزب الوفد»، لكنه انتقد مواقف الوفد المصري بزعامة «سعد زغلول»، واتهمه بالمساوَمة على القضية الوطنية، وعقب ذلك الحدث انتقل من «حزب الوفد» إلى «الحزب الوطني» الذي أسَّسه «مصطفى كامل»، ثم سرعان ما ترك هذا الحزب؛ إذ رأى أن مواقفَه تحكمها نزعةٌ ثورية.
