The roses are real

Imagination is imagination, and it is wasted if you do not give it free rein. That's why I waited for that visit. I practiced educated postures. I wore a lot of turtlenecks and velvet pants. I placed a pile of printed papers on my table. I threw several papers at random. (1930- 1969) روائي مصري، ترك بلده مصر في أوائل الستينيات وسافر إلى أوروبا ليعمل في وظائف غير مستقرَّة، منها: عامِلٌ في مصانع ببرلين، وهي الفترة التي بدأ فيها بكتابة روايته الأولى والوحيدة، هي: "البيرة في نادي البلياردو"، والتي كتبها أثناء إقامته في أوائل الستينيات بين برلين ولندن، كما عمل كمراسل صحفي، وكتب تحقيقات لمجلة صنداي تايمز بناء على زيارته لإسرائيل في الستينيات. وصدرت ترجمة مجموعته القصصية التي نشرها متفرِّقة (الورود حقيقية) عن مركز المحروسة، كما أصدر ترجمة رسائله ومذكِّراته (رسائل السنوات الأخيرة). انتحر وجيه غالي في شقة الكاتبة الإنجليزية ديانا آتهيل عام 1969.
