The Good Earth is considered a classic of American literature, and Pearl Buck won the Pulitzer Prize and the Dean Howells Medal for it. She also won the Nobel Prize in Literature for her entire work in 1938, thus becoming the first American woman to win it.
The events take place in China on the verge of radical change, and follows the saga of an entire family. Pearl Buck depicts the cycle of life with all its horrors, passions, and human ambitions and ambitions, in exchange for the rewards or punishments of the world. All of this is through the family of Wang Lung, his wife Ulan, and their children, and traces the story of the rise of this family and its rise to a status comparable to that of the Huang family, of which Ulan was once merely a slave, before its fall. The reader follows the details of life in China in rural and urban society, and learns about the customs, superstitions, and beliefs of the people there, from all different social classes. With this cycle of life, the earth remains the foundation, the source of life without which everything is lost.
