Wadi Natrun

In his book "The Orbit of This Book," Omar Fakhoury reviews four major literary issues across four chapters. The first chapter discusses the limits of creativity and the writer's ability to break free from the constraints of tradition and embrace the genius of new creation. In the second chapter, he addresses critical methods, calling for the elimination of subjective criticism that is preoccupied with issuing judgments instead of appreciating literature as an integrated creative work. The third chapter is devoted to poetry, the loudest literary voice of all time, and stresses the need for poetry to be of its time and not a copy of the poetry of the ancients. In the fourth and final chapter, he discusses "beauty between movement and stillness," noting that poetry and literature stimulate special readings that reveal the aesthetics of their language and unravel the mysteries of their meanings. This book combines literary criticism and deep reflection on literary issues.

عمر طوسون هو أحد أهم رواد الإصلاح والنهضة في مصر أوائل القرن العشرين، وله إسهامات بارزة في المجالات العلمية والعملية. اشتهر بتأريخ الأحداث التاريخية المصرية وتقديم دراسات أثرية رائدة، كما أسهم في اكتشاف العديد من الآثار مثل رأس تمثال الإسكندر الأكبر. ولد في الإسكندرية عام 1872م ونشأ يتيم الأب، حيث تولت جدته تربيته قبل أن يكمل تعليمه في سويسرا ويزور العديد من البلدان الأوروبية. عُرف بأعماله الخيرية الواسعة التي شملت جمعيات إسلامية وقبطية، ودعمه للمقاومة الليبية العثمانية ضد الغزو الإيطالي، بالإضافة إلى نشاطاته الاقتصادية كرئيس للجمعية الزراعية الملكية. توفي عام 1944م عن عمر يناهز الثانية والسبعين.
