The novel deals with the state of brokenness and shame that Arabs and Muslims were exposed to after the spread of what happened in Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq, and the psychological and behavioral impact that followed on others. Towards others, especially non-Arabs or Americans in Cairo.
The novel also deals with the Egyptian cultural reality and the cultural corruption taking place within it, as well as the cinematic reality and its problems and issues, until the narrator's world collapses completely in the end as a result of the psychological collapse caused by the torture event.
