I did not ask the mermaid about her name, nor even where she got my name from, which she called me quietly as if she had known me since my birth! We were listening to the praisers, and I was peeping at her, and she was sitting there, filling the place with a mysterious fragrance and transparent magic. The mermaid said, commenting on the verses that the praisers were singing, "The lover suffers more than anyone else."
