Über den Autor

William Hope Hodgson was a prolific English author renowned for his contribution to the fields of horror, fantastical fiction, and sea stories. Born on November 15, 1877, in Blackmore End, Essex, he engaged with the sea from an early age, which later influenced much of his literary work. Hodgson ran away to sea at the age of thirteen, thus imbuing his narratives with an authentic maritime atmosphere that would become a hallmark of his writing. After pursuing a variety of careers, including bodybuilding and photography, he settled into writing as his primary occupation.

Hodgson's oeuvre is characterized by a unique blend of cosmic horror, supernatural fiction, and nautical adventure. Among his noted works is 'The Boats of the 'Glen Carrig'', which exemplifies his mingling of the fantastic and the sea. However, it is perhaps 'The House on the Borderland' and 'The Night Land' that best showcase his speculative and otherworldly imagination, influencing later writers within the weird fiction genre such as H. P. Lovecraft. Hodgson's writings went, at times, beyond the conventions of his day, imbuing his cosmic perspective with a sense of dread and the inexplicable. He joined the British Army during World War I and tragically lost his life at the Battle of Ypres in 1918. His literary legacy, though underappreciated in his time, has grown posthumously, and his works, such as those compiled in 'WILLIAM HOPE HODGSON Ultimate Collection: Horror Classics, Occult & Supernatural Tales and Poems,' continue to captivate readers and scholars alike.
