The Aquarian Gospel of Jesus the Christ

Levi H. Dowling's *The Aquarian Gospel of Jesus the Christ* presents an esoteric reconstruction of sacred history, portraying the life and teachings of Jesus within a vast metaphysical panorama of cosmic evolution, reincarnation, spiritual law, and humanity's gradual awakening. Written in a scriptural, visionary manner, the work combines gospel-like narrative with occult exposition and claims access to the "Akashic Records," an immaterial archive of universal memory. Its interest lies not only in its theological assertions but also in its place within late nineteenth- and early twentieth-century occultism, when Theosophical ideas, alternative Christianities, and New Thought encouraged readers to reinterpret orthodox doctrine through mysticism and comparative spirituality. Dowling was an American minister and metaphysical writer whose religious imagination developed amid this period's vigorous exchange between Christianity, psychic research, and esoteric philosophy. He presented the book as a transmission received through spiritual perception rather than as conventional historical scholarship, thereby positioning himself as an interpreter of hidden wisdom and a mediator between biblical tradition and modern occult cosmology. His project reflects a desire to reconcile Christian revelation with universalist conceptions of spiritual development. This volume will reward readers interested in esoteric Christianity, the history of occult literature, and the cultural forces that reshaped religious authority in the modern era. It is best approached critically—as a visionary document and influential example of alternative scripture—while remaining attentive to its imaginative ambition, symbolic richness, and enduring appeal to seekers of transcendent knowledge.

Levi H. Dowling (1844-1911) was an American preacher who authored The Aquarian Gospel of Jesus the Christ. Dowling claimed it was the true story of the life of Jesus, including "the 'lost' eighteen years silent in the New Testament." The Aquarian Christine Church Universal, Inc. is a denomination founded on the teachings found in The Aquarian Gospel and other writings by Levi H. Dowling. The Aquarian Christine Church considers Dowling an Ascended Master.
