Über das eBook

Miser Farebrother (Vol. 1–3) is a Victorian three-decker novel of secrecy, money, and moral reckoning, centred on the figure of the miser whose hoarded wealth distorts family feeling and social obligation. Farjeon works in the tradition of sensation and domestic melodrama, combining suspenseful plotting, sharply contrasted characters, and an alert interest in the hidden pressures of class, inheritance, and respectability. Its style is fluent, dramatic, and morally probing, shaped by the popular fiction market of late nineteenth-century Britain. B. L. Farjeon, born in London in 1838, was a prolific novelist and journalist whose career was formed across Britain, Australia, and New Zealand. His experience in newspapers, printing offices, and colonial literary culture gave him a keen eye for urban life, social mobility, and the precarious fortunes of ordinary people. Like Dickens, whom he admired, Farjeon often turned melodrama into a vehicle for social observation and humane sympathy. This novel is recommended to readers interested in Victorian popular fiction, financial anxiety, and the moral imagination of the nineteenth century. It rewards those who enjoy plot-driven narrative with psychological and social depth.
