Über das eBook

Studies in the Psychology of Sex (Vol. 1–6) is a foundational work of modern sexology, ranging across sexual inversion, modesty, auto-eroticism, courtship, erotic symbolism, and social attitudes toward reproduction and desire. Written in a measured, documentary prose, Ellis combines clinical observation, case history, anthropology, classical reference, and literary quotation. Emerging from the late Victorian and Edwardian crisis over morality and science, the series seeks to replace taboo and punitive judgment with empirical understanding. Havelock Ellis, physician, essayist, and social reformer, was intellectually shaped by evolutionary theory, progressive politics, and the new psychological sciences. His friendships with feminists, radicals, and writers, as well as his own unconventional marriage, sharpened his interest in the diversity of erotic life. Though limited by the assumptions of his age, Ellis argued with unusual courage for tolerance, especially toward sexual minorities. This work is recommended to readers interested in the history of psychology, gender, medicine, and modern social thought. It should be read critically, but also with awareness of its pioneering ambition: to make sexuality a subject of serious scholarship rather than silence, scandal, or superstition.
