ابن رشد (أبو الوليد محمد بن أحمد بن رشد) هو فيلسوف وطبيب وقاضٍ أندلسي وُلد في قرطبة عام 520 هـ / 1126 م، ويُعد من أعظم المفكرين في التاريخ الإسلامي والعالمي. كان من أسرة علمية عريقة، فوالده وجده كانا قاضيين مشهورين في الأندلس. درس الفقه والطب والفلسفة والرياضيات والفلك، وتميز بقدرته على الجمع بين العلوم العقلية والنقلية. اشتهر بشروحه العميقة على مؤلفات أرسطو، والتي أثرت تأثيراً بالغاً في الفكر الأوروبي في العصور الوسطى وساهمت في نهضة الفلسفة الغربية. دعا ابن رشد إلى التوفيق بين الدين والعقل، واعتبر أن الفلسفة وسيلة لفهم مقاصد الشريعة لا خصماً لها. من أبرز مؤلفاته "فصل المقال" و"تهافت التهافت" و"الكلّيات في الطب". ظل اسمه رمزاً للعقلانية والاعتدال الفكري في الفكر الإسلامي، ومثّل حلقة وصل بين الحضارتين الإسلامية والأوروبية.
