Omar Toson, one of the most prominent figures of the modern Egyptian renaissance, was not just a member of the royal family, but rather he was busy with the issues of his nation and contributed to its progress. His interests varied between field and theoretical research. He discovered approximately fifty-two monasteries and the head of a statue of Alexander the Great, making him an icon in the field of archaeological discoveries. This rich field experience was clearly reflected in his theoretical works, which were characterized by depth and novelty. One of his most prominent works is the book "Wadi al-Natrun, its monks and its monasteries," in which he reviews the history of this valley and its monasteries, and the lives of the Orthodox patriarchs and monks who lived there before the Arab conquest of Egypt. عمر طوسون هو أحد أهم رواد الإصلاح والنهضة في مصر أوائل القرن العشرين، وله إسهامات بارزة في المجالات العلمية والعملية. اشتهر بتأريخ الأحداث التاريخية المصرية وتقديم دراسات أثرية رائدة، كما أسهم في اكتشاف العديد من الآثار مثل رأس تمثال الإسكندر الأكبر. ولد في الإسكندرية عام 1872م ونشأ يتيم الأب، حيث تولت جدته تربيته قبل أن يكمل تعليمه في سويسرا ويزور العديد من البلدان الأوروبية. عُرف بأعماله الخيرية الواسعة التي شملت جمعيات إسلامية وقبطية، ودعمه للمقاومة الليبية العثمانية ضد الغزو الإيطالي، بالإضافة إلى نشاطاته الاقتصادية كرئيس للجمعية الزراعية الملكية. توفي عام 1944م عن عمر يناهز الثانية والسبعين.
