In these four lectures, the author takes us on a journey through the history of economic theories from ancient civilizations until the seventeenth century, where he deals with the beginnings of political economy in the countries of the East and its impact on the development of nations. It highlights ancient economic doctrines such as the doctrine of the Physiocrats, which incorporated the term "circulation of wealth," in addition to the doctrine of the Psimists, or skeptics, which reflected a different vision of economics and politics.

محمد لطفي جمعة، الكاتب والمترجم والروائي المصري، وُلد في الإسكندرية عام 1886 لأسرة من الطبقة الوسطى، ونشأ وسط تأثير الزعيمين الوطنيين مصطفى كامل ومحمد فريد، حيث شكلوا صداقة وطيدة وتعاونوا في الكفاح السياسي ضد الاستعمار. درس في مدارس متعددة وحصل على إجازة من كلية الحقوق في فرنسا عام 1912، وعمل كمدرس وناشط ثقافي وفكري، مساهمًا في تطوير الفكر الإنساني والتعليم المجاني، إضافةً إلى ترجمته لأعمال عديدة من الأدب العالمي إلى العربية. أصيب بجلطة دماغية ألمت به لفترة طويلة، قبل أن يرحل عن عالمنا بسبب مضاعفات المرض.
