Donkey thoughts

What would a donkey say if he spoke? Would he complain about the mistreatment and contempt he suffers from humans? How would he attempt to gain their sympathy and respect?
This is the theme of the book, in which the French author, Countess de Ségur, attempts to change our prevailing perception of the donkey—that miserable animal rumored to be stupid, lazy, and misbehaving. She immerses us in the animal psyche by presenting the memoirs and thoughts of Cadizion, a talking animal with the capacity for critical and philosophical thinking, so similar to his human counterparts that he has been nicknamed "the learned donkey."
Cadizion takes us on some of the adventures he has experienced in his life, showing us his other side and his good qualities, such as courage, as he risks his life to save his close friend. He also demonstrates his ability to be cunning, even able to deceive a human who considers himself intelligent. He also attempts to offer solutions to the human problems that plague human society.
