Илья Арнольдович Ильф (настоящее имя — Иехи́эл-Лейб Арьевич Фа́йнзильбер, 1897–1937) и Евгений Петрович Петров (настоящая фамилия — Ката́ев, 1903–1942) — знаменитый дуэт советских писателей-сатириков, чьи совместные романы «Двенадцать стульев» и «Золотой телёнок» стали классикой русской литературы XX века.

Они познакомились в редакции газеты «Гудок» в середине 1920-х годов, где оба работали в жанре сатирических фельетонов. Их творческий союз оказался удивительно гармоничным: Ильф — тонкий ироник и наблюдатель, Петров — лёгкий на подъём, энергичный рассказчик с яркой фантазией. Вместе они создали образ Остапа Бендера — гениального афериста, ставшего символом советской литературной авантюры.

Помимо романов, Ильф и Петров писали рассказы, очерки и фельетоны, а также вели заметную журналистскую деятельность. Их репортаж «Одноэтажная Америка» — плод путешествия по США в 1935–1936 годах — стал важным документом эпохи.

Илья Ильф скончался от туберкулёза в 1937 году. Евгений Петров погиб в авиакатастрофе в годы Великой Отечественной войны. Несмотря на короткий срок совместной работы, они оставили глубокий след в литературе, соединив сатиру, философию и живое народное слово в произведениях, актуальных и по сей день.
