Light

Grandmother leaned on Noor's shoulder until she reached her bed. She sat her down with her legs spread and spread her blanket over her. She changed her clothes into a long brown robe striped with blue and red. She untied her braids and stretched her body out on the mattress next to the wall opposite her grandmother's bed. Her fingers crept in and pulled her diary from under her pillow. She wrote in it: (I folded the pages of the apron, and now I have to prepare for what is coming. I feel excited mixed with fear of the unknown). She put it back in its place, grabbed the newspaper, opened it to the weekly article by her favorite writer, looked at the letters of her name printed on the left side under the title, and whispered in a voice that only she could hear: "Four years and my name will be here next to yours."
