Desert battles

Wissam Al-Dweik's last poems were written in classical Arabic. The collection is characterized by a rumination on past experiences... about war and separation from the country and family, and is characterized by a deep focus on the details of the scenes and feelings accompanying the experiences of separation and pain. The collection's texts are lengthy, intense, and deep, and in it, Al-Dweik monitors a general human experience, not a personal one, in the meanings of loss and separation, through scenes that bring him together with imaginary people whose stories, pain, and losses he tells. The collection is deep in language and imagination, and its language is free and not restricted by the styles of classical poetry, but like all texts of the Classical Wissam, it conveys the image and meaning with rare freedom and honesty.
