This novel explains the biography of a hero of high patriotism, for whom God has combined the qualities of courage, steadfastness, determination, zeal, sincerity, and sacrifice, which he has collected for you, so permit me to dedicate his novel to you, and to introduce the Balkan hero to the Egyptian hero, so that the soul of each of you will be united with the soul of his friend, even if time separates you, and homes are different between you, then if you would be so kind as to accept my gift - and I do not consider you to be a culprit for that. - Let my reward for you be that you bear witness to me between you and yourself that I have placed a small brick in that huge building that you have built for your nation and your homeland, and that is sufficient for me and that is enough.
