Some War-time Lessons

This is a reflective history book about the standards, scholarship and conduct of American soldiers during the First World War. The author, Frederick P. Keppel, was the third assistant secretary of war. The book looks particularly at soldiers' use of intoxicants including alcohol, their sexual conduct and other issues. It contains following lessons: The Soldier's Standards of Conduct; The War As a Test of American Scholarship; and What Have We Learned.

Frederick P. Keppel (1875-1943) was an American educator and executive in the field of philanthropy. In education he served as dean of Columbia College, in government he served as Third Assistant Secretary of War, and in philanthropy he served as president of the Carnegie Corporation.
