Strangers

In the collection "Strangers", the poet Salah Labaki brings to life the memory of his friends and literary figures through poems that carry the scent of lamentation and loyalty. The collection opens with a main poem entitled "Strangers," in which he expresses his passion for the mortal universe and the vicissitudes of the world that leave no money or prestige behind, leaving us all strangers in the end. The poet recounts, in a voice full of sorrow, the loss of prominent literary figures such as the poet Khalil Mutran, whom he described as the "messenger of civilization," and the writer Ibrahim Al-Yaziji, on the centenary of his birth, emphasizing the greatness of their influence on Arabic literature. Labaki expresses feelings of loss and conscience with realism and beauty, making this collection a literary cry that touches the soul and commemorates those who have passed away.

صلاح لبكي، الأديب والسياسي والصحفي اللبناني، برع في الشعر والنثر وكان من رواد التجديد في الشعر اللبناني. وُلد في سان باولو بالبرازيل عام 1900، وعاد إلى لبنان مع والده وهو في الثانية من عمره. تلقى تعليمه في مدارس لبنان، وتخرج من مدرسة عينطورة عام 1927، ثم درس الحقوق في معهد الحقوق الفرنسي. عمل مدرسًا وصحفيًا ومحاميًا، وكتب لعدة صحف وألقى محاضرات حول الشعر العربي المعاصر. كان عضوًا في الجمعية الوطنية اللبنانية وأمين سرها، وانضم إلى الحزب القومي السوري ثم تركه. نال عدة أوسمة وجوائز، وله إنتاج أدبي وشعري وفير، من دواوينه "أرجوحة القمر" و"مواعيد"، ومن أعماله النثرية "من أعماق الجبل" و"لبنان الشاعر". تُوفي عام 1955 في بيت مري بلبنان.
