ابن شاهين الظاهري (أبو حفص عمر بن أحمد بن شاهين) كان محدثاً ومفسراً ومؤرخاً عاش في القرن الرابع الهجري، وُلد في بغداد سنة 297 هـ تقريباً. تميز بغزارة علمه وكثرة مؤلفاته التي تجاوزت المئات في شتى فنون العلم، أبرزها الحديث والرجال والتفسير والفقه. عُرف بلقب "الظاهري" لأنه كان يميل إلى مذهب داود الظاهري في الفقه. رحل في طلب العلم إلى البصرة ومصر والشام، وسمع الحديث من كبار المحدثين في عصره. من أهم كتبه "ناسخ الحديث ومنسوخه" و"شرح مذاهب أهل السنة" و"الترغيب والترهيب". اتسم أسلوبه بالدقة والوضوح، وحرص على جمع الأسانيد وتوثيق الروايات بعناية فائقة. كان مثالاً للعالم المتقشف الزاهد في الدنيا، قضى عمره في نشر العلم والتعليم حتى وفاته سنة 385 هـ، تاركاً تراثاً علمياً ضخماً يعد من ركائز الدراسات الحديثية والتاريخية.
