In his immortal book, "The Views of the People of the Virtuous City and Their Oppositions," the great philosopher Al-Farabi, known as the Second Teacher, presents a comprehensive philosophical project for an Arab-Islamic human vision of the ideal city. The author begins with the principles of metaphysics in discussing the first being and the divine essence, then discusses the world, including inanimate and living things, and celestial bodies, before concluding with the human soul, its morals, and its need for human society. Within this framework, Al-Farabi paints the image of a virtuous city whose members cooperate to achieve goodness, justice, and happiness, based on virtue and knowledge, capable of confronting ignorant cities and their shortcomings. The text reflects the depth of Islamic philosophical thought and its openness to the Greek heritage, while formulating a new vision of man and society. This book combines wisdom and political thought and remains a fundamental reference in Islamic philosophy and human utopia.
