War and Peace is a grand epic about the destinies of people and nations during the Napoleonic Wars. A whole world unfolds before the reader, from the grandeur of battles to the quiet of family scenes, from philosophical reflections on freedom and destiny to the secret movements of the human heart. The novel weaves together history, philosophy, and psychology, creating a multilayered picture of Russia in the early 19th century.

This is the 1873 edition, the author's final version, in which Tolstoy himself translated all the French dialogues into Russian. This step gave the text coherence and brought it closer to the living language of his time.

The edition is supplemented with illustrations by Alexander Apsit and Nikolai Karazin, which accurately convey the spirit and atmosphere of the era depicted.
