What should we do?
About the eBook
We present to the Arab reader the first translation of Tolstoy's book What Should We Do? It is one of Tolstoy's important intellectual books. Where Tolstoy recorded the names of those in need, and wrote down his notes about the assistance that could be provided to them, so that he could return to them later. Tolstoy described the horror of poverty in cities, and the vast distance that separates the poor from the rich there. He did not absolve himself of responsibility, and described to the reader his feelings of guilt about the luxurious life he was living, and always emphasized that excessive luxury and extreme poverty are linked, and one cannot be separated from the other. He came to the conclusion that "our wealth" is the basis of poverty.
Tolstoy believes that money is the root of evil, and that there is an immoral aspect to possessing it. "Money is a new form of slavery."
