كرين برنتن (1898-1968) مؤرخ أمريكي وأستاذ التاريخ القديم والحديث بجامعة هارفرد. وُلِد في ولاية كونيكتكت، درس في جامعة هارفرد ومن ثم حصل على منحة للدراسة في جامعة أكسفورد. يُعرف بنظريته في الثورة، وقد اشتهر بمؤلفاته حول الثورات وأسبابها ونتائجها. من أبرز أعماله كتاب "تشريح الثورة"، الذي حلل فيه الثورات الكبرى مثل الثورة الفرنسية والثورة الأمريكية. تولى برنتن عدة مناصب رفيعة، بما في ذلك رئاسة الجمعية التاريخية الأمريكية، وتوفي في ولاية ماساتشوستس.
