بيرل باك (1892-1973) هي روائية وكاتبة أمريكية، وُلِدت لأبوين مُبشِّرين وسافرت إلى الصين في طفولتها، حيث عاشت حتى الأربعين من عمرها. حازت على جائزة نوبل في الأدب عام 1938، وكانت أول امرأة أمريكية تنال هذه الجائزة. بدأت مسيرتها الأدبية في عام 1930، وكتبت أكثر من ثمانين رواية وما يزيد عن مائة قصة قصيرة. من أشهر أعمالها رواية "الأرض الطيبة" التي منحتها شهرة عالمية وحازت بسببها على جائزة البوليتزر. تميزت كتاباتها بأسلوب نثري جميل وسرد مشوق، وقد تناولت موضوعات متنوعة تتعلق بالثقافة الصينية وتجارب الإنسان. توفيت باك عام 1973 بسبب سرطان الرئة، وتركت وراءها إرثًا أدبيًا غنيًا يؤثر في القراء حول العالم.
