At the age of eighteen, Omar Fakhouri published his first book, "How the Arabs Rise," which caused a huge uproar and almost led to his imprisonment had it not been for his young age and the intervention of the people of solution and contract with the governor of Beirut. The book was soon confiscated and its copies destroyed, and only rare copies remained, which were republished in 1960. The book was a new call to embrace Arab nationalism and adhere to its elements of a common language and history to restore the glory of the Arabs and their ancient civilization and liberate themselves from the shackles of the declining Ottoman Empire. Fakhoury explains the duties of everyone, young people and thinkers, to achieve the goals of this call and make them a reality.

عمر فاخوري هو أديب ومفكر وناقد لبناني بارز، ويُعتبر من رواد المدرسة الواقعية في النقد الأدبي الحديث وأحد أعلام النهضة في القرن العشرين. ولد في بيروت عام 1895، وتلقى تعليمه في الكلية العثمانية التي ساهمت في تشكيل وعيه القومي. انضم إلى جمعية العربية الفتاة وناضل ضد الحكم التركي، وكاد كتابه الأول "كيف ينهض العرب" عام 1913 يعرضه للإعدام لولا تدخل والده. استمر فاخوري في نضاله ضد الاستعمار بكتاباته في جريدة "الحقيقة" بتوقيع "مسلم ديمقراطي"، ودرس الصيدلة في المكتب الطبي العثماني حيث ألقى محاضرته الأولى. بعد انضمامه لحزب الاستقلال في دمشق، سافر إلى باريس لدراسة الحقوق، وأتقن الفرنسية وأثرى نفسه ثقافيًا وفكريًا. عاد إلى بيروت ليعمل في المحاماة وينخرط في الحركة الكشفية ويترجم العديد من المؤلفات، وانتُخب عضوًا في المجمع العلمي بدمشق. أصدر العديد من الكتب والمقالات النقدية، وكان ناشطًا في مكافحة النازية. توفي عام 1946 إثر إصابته بمرض اليرقان.
