أحمد أمين، شخصية فكرية بارزة في النصف الأول من القرن العشرين، وُلد في القاهرة عام 1886. تخرج في الأزهر ثم انتقل للتدريس في عدة مدارس قبل أن يتولى منصب مدرس بمدرسة القضاء الشرعي. اشتهر بأعماله الفكرية التي تجمع بين النقد الأدبي والفلسفة والتاريخ، وقد أسهم في تجديد الفكر الإسلامي. اختير لتدريس النقد الأدبي بكلية الآداب بجامعة القاهرة في 1926، وأصبح عميدًا للكلية لاحقًا. برز من خلال موسوعته عن الحضارة الإسلامية التي شملت "فجر الإسلام" و"ضحى الإسلام" و"ظهر الإسلام". توفي عام 1954، تاركًا إرثًا فكريًا ثريًا يُعتبر مرجعًا في الأدب والفلسفة الإسلامية.
