About the eBook

Transcendental Magic: Its Doctrine and Ritual is Éliphas Lévi's foundational synthesis of nineteenth-century occult philosophy, uniting Christian mysticism, Hermeticism, Kabbalah, alchemy, and Tarot into a systematic vision of "high magic." Divided into doctrine and practice, the work combines aphoristic argument, symbolic exegesis, and ritual instruction, presenting magic not as superstition but as a disciplined science of will, imagination, and correspondence. Its famous concepts—astral light, the magical equilibrium, and the symbolic figure of Baphomet—placed it at the center of the modern occult revival. Lévi, born Alphonse Louis Constant in 1810, was trained for the Catholic priesthood before turning toward radical politics, mysticism, and esoteric speculation. His theological education gave him the language of dogma and sacrament, while his disillusionment with institutional authority encouraged a search for universal religion beneath religious forms. Transcendental Magic reflects this unusual convergence of seminarian discipline, Romantic symbolism, and revolutionary intellectual ambition. This book is recommended for readers interested in the genealogy of modern esotericism, symbolic religion, and the occult imagination. Though demanding and sometimes deliberately enigmatic, it rewards careful reading as both a historical document and a powerful statement of magical philosophy.
