The Life and Times of Akhenaton, Pharaoh of Egypt (Annotated)
About the eBook
The Life and Times of Akhenaton, Pharaoh of Egypt offers a vivid historical portrait of one of antiquity's most enigmatic rulers, tracing the religious, political, and artistic upheavals of Egypt's Amarna age. Combining biography, cultural history, archaeology, and interpretive narrative, the work situates Akhenaton's monotheistic revolution within the broader currents of dynastic power, temple authority, and imperial ambition. Its most compelling passages illuminate the king's radical devotion to the Aten and the aesthetic transformation that accompanied his reign. Arthur E. P. Brome Weigall, an influential Egyptologist and antiquarian writer, brings to the subject the perspective of early twentieth-century archaeological scholarship, shaped by excavation, museum culture, and the modern rediscovery of ancient Egypt. His study belongs to a formative moment in Egyptology, when textual evidence, material remains, and literary reconstruction were brought together to make ancient lives intelligible to a broad readership. Readers interested in ancient religion, royal ideology, and the history of archaeological interpretation will find this volume a valuable entry point. It invites engagement with Akhenaton not merely as a pharaoh, but as a figure through whom questions of faith, power, reform, and historical memory continue to resonate.
