About the eBook

"The Call of Cthulhu" is one of H. P. Lovecraft's best-known short stories. Written in the summer of 1926, it was first published in Weird Tales, February 1928. It is the only story written by Lovecraft in which the extraterrestrial entity Cthulhu himself makes a major appearance.

It is written in a documentary style, with three independent narratives linked together by the device of a narrator discovering notes left by a deceased relative. The narrator pieces together the whole truth and disturbing significance of the information he possesses, illustrating the story's first line: "The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity; and it was not meant that we should voyage far."

Reviews

Tauno Avatar

Short, dark and enjoyable

It is a very thought provoking book about other worldly monsters that sleep in the sea depth and can influence our mortal dreams.

Of course there is more to this book like detective work (more like collecting and correlating data), a mysterious cult, mysterious events, mysterious notes and reports, and some mysteries surrounding some people's death, which conceivably left behind notes and reports.

The interesting part about these notes and reports is that they are mostly different. There are similaries in some cases, this is because the notes and reports speak of a similar happening, but still unique.

In a good way, this book likes to feed cookies to you for every time you continue reading. Pathing is fast, but not overwhelmingly fast. It is quite gloomy, but gripping.

Is it worth it?
Yes. I enjoyed it and would recommend it. A quick snack one might say with less than 100 pages, but some words might cause a slight pause here and there.
