Every year on the eve of the eleventh new moon, the young apprenctices of the alchemical guild gather in the Bone Church near Prague. But this year, things are different.

That night, April makes the unexpected acquaintance of Jack Rosier, a young alchemist whose dark aura, heretical ideas and irresistible charisma pull her into his orbit.

When April starts to dream of witch burdnings, churches on fire and seas of blood, she begins to suspect evil and together with her twin brother Will and her friend Ginger, April sets off to find answers which draw her deeper into the catacombs of the Golden City, the dark sides of religion and depravity of humankind.

Jael Jarmila Livas was born in Switzerland and is of Czech and Greek origin. After professional training in contemporary dance, she first studied at the University of Zurich at the Faculty of Film Studies before transitioning to the Rose Bruford College of Theatre and Performance in London. When not writing or studying, Jael loves to go for walks, being in nature, watch films, drink tea and write poetry.
