Al-Khula'i was a prominent figure in Egyptian music during the first half of the twentieth century. He studied music and contributed to its development, and he was also interested in studying Italian operetta and French music.
Al-Khula'i was born in Alexandria in 1880 and moved with his father to Cairo at the beginning of his life, where he worked on Muhammad Ali Street writing signs. Al-Khula'i demonstrated a passion for music from a young age, learning rhythms from Sheikh Ali al-Mawsili and the artist Ahmed Abu Khalil al-Qabbani. He also studied under his teacher Salama Hegazy, and became known for his theatrical compositions. He also memorized both old and modern muwashshahat. He composed more than four hundred Muwashahat and historical novels. He also composed for the Munira al-Mahdiyya band, and also for the George Abyad band. Al-Khula'i died in 1938 AD after being struck by paralysis, leaving behind a wonderful musical heritage.
