Return of the Knights
About the eBook
The Three Musketeers is a series of noble works written by Alexandre Dumas, a witness to a turbulent era filled with intrigue and conspiracies. However, the presence of a group of honorable men transformed some of the features of that era into generous works that championed justice and restored it to its rightful place. The two most prominent stories involve helping the King of England ascend the throne and replacing the dissolute King of France with his wise and insightful brother. After the completion of the plan for the novel series, Dumas returned to the same stage and the same experience in other works, including The Fifth Musketeer, The Last Musketeer, and The Knight of Sainte-Hermine. The romantic aspect may prevail over the chivalric aspect, and the adventures take on an emotional character, as in his novel The Hearts of the Fathers. However, all the events take place during the reign of the French King Louis XIV, a time of unrest and the collapse of security that France witnessed. This is a period that Dumas never tired of addressing in his novels and plays, until his passing in 1870.
