About the eBook

Sinai was known in Egyptian antiquities as "Tushwit", meaning the land of barrenness and denudation. Its inhabitants in the north were known as "Hiroshaytu", meaning "lords of the sands", and were attributed to the "Amu" race, known to us as the Semitic race. Its inhabitants in the south were known as "Monito". The Munito and Hiroshiito were similar in appearance, clothing, and Bedouin life. Their surviving images in the ruins to this day indicate that their appearance in those bygone eras was very similar to the appearance of the Sinai Bedouins today. They walked barefoot, belted their waists, and wore cloaks. Their weapons were bows, arrows, spears, spears, knives, axes, and shields. They kept flocks of sheep, but camels and horses were not known to them, just as they were not known in Egypt. Most of their food was the milk of livestock and the fruits of palm trees. Some of them worked in agriculture, living near springs and wells, cultivating what was fertile on the land, despite its scarcity, and creating gardens of palm trees, figs, olives, and grapevines. The produce of their land was not enough for them, so they frequented the markets of eastern Egypt and southern Syria, selling honey, wool, gum, manna, and charcoal from the produce of their desert, and bringing from there what they lacked of grains and clothing.
