The short story, as a flexible form capable of intermingling and identifying with different forms of literary expression, and its ability to accommodate multiple formulations that start from the subjective, reflect the objective, and confirm the individual identity of its writer, and its convergence with the language of the everyday and the lived, the story was and still is able to express the aspirations of modern man, whether in his desire to search for new forms of expressive performance, free from the authority of hierarchical systems and structures, or in its ability to carry new content that reflects personal and private issues and experiences, or in its tendency to expose much of what is unspoken within closed cultural structures.

روائي وقاص وناقد أدبي، من مواليد القاهرة عام 1951م. درس الأدب العربي بكلية الآداب جامعة عين شمس. ساهم في تأسيس جماعة نصوص 90 الأدبية. مؤسس موقع صدى ذاكرة القصة القصيرة على شبكة الإنترنت. رأس تحرير سلسلة حرف التابعة لهيئة قصور الثقافة، ويتولى حاليًا رئاسة سلسلة إبداعات قصصية الصادرة عن الهيئة المصرية العامة للكتاب.
