About the Author
George Orwell (1903–1950) was a British writer, journalist, and essayist best known for his novels Animal Farm and 1984. Born Eric Arthur Blair in India, he was educated in England and served in the colonial police in Burma before turning to writing. Orwell was deeply concerned with social justice, political oppression, and the misuse of power, themes that define much of his work. His clear prose and sharp critique of totalitarianism have made him one of the most influential voices of the 20th century.
