Ο Ανδρέας Καρκαβίτσας (1865-1922) ήταν μια σημαντική μορφή του ρεαλισμού στη νεοελληνική λογοτεχνία. Γιατρός στο επάγγελμα, τα ταξίδια του στην Ελλάδα επηρέασαν το έργο του, που χαρακτηρίζεται από ενδιαφέρον για τα ήθη, την καθημερινή ζωή και τις λαϊκές δοξασίες.
