Philosophy of Ibn Rushd
About the eBook
With his philosophical skill, Ibn Rushd was able to remove the contradiction. For him, interpretation meant that consensus was impossible, and therefore atonement was impossible. Ibn Rushd established the law of interpretation in order not to fall into error, which is that interpretation is not permissible except for the group of demonstrators, who are firmly rooted in knowledge and connected to God. The Messenger, may God bless him and grant him peace, says, "No one knows its interpretation except God and His Messenger and those who are firmly rooted in knowledge." Scientists may agree. On the necessity of interpretation in one of the places and then they disagree on its method, and if that is the case then it is not permissible to declare atonement for violating the consensus regarding interpretation.
