They are normal people.
The closest to nature - as we see - is Jamil, our friend in this book. His existence - wherever he is found - is only consistent with the image that his poems and the reports of his narrators give us, and his relationship with his lover, Buthaina, is straight on the path that it should be, and his loyalty to her or her loyalty to him is the loyalty that is implied by all two lovers like them. He is not in the sky, nor is he in the imagination, nor is he beyond people's capacity, but he is the human being wherever he is, one in every place and time.
